Requirements Review

Turn complex requirements into guardrails and a consistent, actionable workflow for your team.

Overview

Introducing Requirements Review, a brand new rules builder and workflow feature set that allows you to map critical requirements from prints and models into action items in your quote–ensuring you never miss a critical requirement in prints, models, or other files again so that your team can quote faster, more consistently, and with less risk.

With Requirements Review rules, you can:

  • Automatically identify the critical or disqualifying requirements before you waste time quoting them

  • Quickly assign processes or add operations based on print information, including in bulk

  • Capture tribal knowledge and train junior estimators with a consistent workflow against prints

  • Organize and automate collaboration with automatic assignees and task-specific chat threads

See the below video for a brief overview of how it works.

Why it matters

Quoting from prints is hard.

When you receive a large RFQ package, the question you want the answer to immediately is: “should I make these parts?”. Yet with hundreds of requirements buried across many prints and pages, it often requires hours of your most experienced senior estimators’ time to even begin to answer that question–let alone cost those parts.

Furthermore, with how easy it is to miss a critical requirement in the sea of information, you’re frequently risking costly mistakes; and if your senior estimators retire or you want to bring on junior estimators, you’re out of luck. And when requirements call for coordinating with the rest of your team–including experts from your production team–it’s next to impossible to organize, document, and audit those decisions.

Requirements Review captures the entire workflow of quoting from prints by allowing you to build simple rules that translate print requirements into consistent, actionable, and collaborative review items right inside Paperless Parts.

  • Once your senior estimators or expert production staff build a rule to flag a particular requirement in a print, it will be flagged every subsequent time it appears–ensuring your team never misses that requirement again.

  • Each review item comes with a set of configured resolutions–the possible outcomes of the decision around that requirement–and can be automatically assigned to specific team members, like senior estimators or expert machinists.

  • Any discussion or decisions about review items are made simple and permanently stored in a chat thread, making it easy to collaborate while preserving an audit trail for the future.

  • You can quickly see up to 5 past parts that a rule was flagged on and the decision you made there, ensuring everyone works consistently and your junior estimators have context.

With requirements review, you have guardrails for your whole team and an intuitive, teachable workflow for your junior estimators–ensuring your whole team can quote faster, more consistently, and with less risk.

What it includes

Requirements Review includes:

  • AI-powered extraction of GD&T and callouts from prints, including control frames, datums, material, specs, holes, countersinks, counterbores, and dimensions with tolerances

  • An intuitive rules builder that helps you map signals–logical conditions about print extractions, document text or print notes, model interrogation results, and other quote information–to resolutions, steps you would take in Paperless Parts or elsewhere in response to requirements you see.

  • A burn-down list of review items where your team can review and complete items, not only making changes to their quote and router but also documenting their decisions for production or future quoting insight.

  • A powerful summary view and bulk actions interface to quickly identify critical requirements across your quote and mass-resolve open items.

  • Assignees, automatic assignment, and conversation threads to help delegate work, collaborate with your team, answer questions and capture your decisions around requirements.
