Today we are announcing three new DFM warnings for sheet metal bending.
- “Short Flange” Detection
- “Close Bends” Detection
- “W-bending May Be Required” Detection
“Short Flange” Detection
When a given flange’s length divided by the material thickness is lower than a threshold, users will receive a “short flange” warning in viewer interrogations and P3L.

“Close Bends” Detection
When the distance between two bends divided by the material thickness is lower than a threshold, users will receive a “close bends” warning in viewer interrogations and P3L. Close bends warnings will trigger for bends within 15° of perpendicular (90°) of the flat surface of the part.
This works for bends in both the same and opposite direction bends because the constraint applies to either on a press brake.
“W-bending May Be Required” Detection
In a U-shape with 90° bends, when the length of the shortest flange divided by the separation is greater than a threshold, users will receive a “W-bending may be required” warning in viewer interrogations and P3L.
