Paperless Parts Appoints Jason Luce as Chief Technology Officer and Scott Sawyer as Chief Scientist

Newly-Appointed Leaders Drive Product and AI Advancements in Industry-Leading Manufacturing Quoting Platform

December 4, 2023

Boston, MAPaperless Parts, the leading quoting and communication platform for custom part manufacturers, today announced the promotion of Jason Luce from Senior Vice President of Engineering to Chief Technology Officer. In addition, Paperless Parts co-founder Scott Sawyer has been named Chief Scientist.

Since joining Paperless Parts as SVP of Engineering in January 2023, Luce has advanced Paperless’ product and technology strategies, and driven continuous improvement in the R&D team’s ability to rapidly deliver high-quality, secure product capabilities. Prior to joining the team, Luce was SVP of Engineering at SessionM (acquired by Mastercard in 2019.) Prior to that, he was Head of Engineering for LogMeIn’s Emerging Products line of business. With this new role, Luce will assume ownership over the product roadmap, ensuring that Paperless Parts continues to deliver an innovative product that maximizes customer success.

“Paperless Parts has transformed the quoting process for over 500 custom part manufacturers in the U.S., helping those shops operate more efficiently, drive increased margins, and grow their businesses,” said Luce. “We have aggressive product development plans to automate quote setup tasks, develop AI-based identification of critical information from RFQ and technical drawings, and develop more accurate, transparent, and configurable runtime models.”

In addition to Luce’s promotion, Paperless Parts also promoted its co-founder, Scott Sawyer, to the role of Chief Scientist. Sawyer began his career as a software and electronics engineer at Lockheed Martin. Later, he served as a researcher in MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s Big Data Group and as VP of Engineering at Ecovent before he co-founded Paperless Parts, where he led the initial development of the company’s product and core technology. In this new role, Sawyer will lead research and development initiatives to bring AI into the Paperless Parts platform.

“The recent advances in AI are a huge opportunity for our customers,” expressed Sawyer. “So much of what our customers do revolves around working with technical data, and in the quoting process especially, manipulating that data to get accurate costing information can be incredibly error-prone. AI can help find the critical information in 3D models, 2D drawings, and email threads, and populate it right in our quoting engine, letting our customers direct more of their time and attention to what they do best: building great products.”

“What Jason and Scott both share is an unrelenting desire to transform the lives of our customers through better technology,” said Jason Ray, co-founder and CEO of Paperless Parts. “Their passion and talent infuse an amazing energy into our team every day, and I’m looking forward to seeing them excel in their new roles.”
